No Reflection Ghost Mirror
30 Oct 2009, written by Revelation 25 Comments
Reflect on this: what if you could see your surroundings – completely crisp and clear – mirrored in the surface before you, but your own image would not come into focus? Sure to freak out friends and Halloween guests, this appropriately-named wall-hanging Ghost Mirror makes you seem like a spirit in the middle of your own living room.

Through refractive tricks of physics, objects close to the mirror (designed by Oliver Sidet) do not seem nearer than they appear but rather more and more indistinct. As people approach the unassuming and unadorned rectangular surface, they expect to get an ever-clearer image of themselves but instead slowly dissipate into nothingness.

Oh sure, it KNOWS whether what is being reflected is a person or just an object. PHOTOSHOPPED FAKE!

It doesn't matter if you're a person or not, what matters is how close the person or object is to the mirror.

Of course it’s not useful, but not everything has to be. It’s neat, that’s all.
Also, it doesn’t KNOW there’s a person, if you read the description it says as objects get closer they become more and more indistinct. Since the people in the pictures are close and the reflected objects clearly are not…well, anyway, this would be a sweet Halloween item!
And of course it’s photoshopped, everything on the internet is if there’s a forum involved.

I wouldn't say it's unuseful. Think of it in terms of decoration. Think of the places you've been that use mirrors on walls to create false sense of space in the room. Now, imagine that you've used *these* mirrors, instead.

Bubba, I don’t think you understood the concept or looked at the picture. The closer you are to the more the more it blurs. So if you’re standing a considerable distance you probably would be able to see yourself, but up close it doesn’t really reflect.

Would be a fun effect for one night, but would get boring and useless after all your friends knew what it was.

Maybe the flash is so bright that you just can’t see the reflection.
