3D Movie Extravaganza and 3D HDTVs Becoming Reality!

With the success of Avatar 3D and it’s ability not only to create an extraordinary visual experience but also pull the viewer deeper into the plot you better get ready for the 3D barrage.  Formatting a film to 3D only takes about 16 weeks and is relatively inexpensive for a studio to do, in the months to come don’t be surprised to see re-released 3D versions of your favorite visually stunning flicks such as  Lord of Rings and The Matrix.  Wired.com reports that a source close George Lucas has confirmed he is spending the 10 million it will take to update his 1976 classic Star Wars.

On top of that we have had heard rumors of 3D HDTVs coming out but nothing concrete.  Well Sony announced yesterday their pricing and release dates of the LX900 series which they unveiled in Las Vegas in Jan.  Panasonic and Samsung have similar announcements scheduled over the coming weeks.   The Sony line is made up of 38 models ranging in screen sizes from 60 to 22-inches. The LX900 series offers integrated 3D functionality with Sony’s 3D active shutter glasses and built-in 3D transmitter, while the HX900 and HX800-series are 3D capable using Sony 3D active shutter glasses and 3D transmitter (each sold separately).  They are dropping in Japan this summer and expect the U.S.A release soon after.  Price range should be in the $6,000 to $3,000 depending on size with 60 inch being the largest.  In 3 years I would expect 3D HDTV to be the new standard.
