Man Builds Noah’s Ark
12 Mar 2010, written by Revelation 0 CommentsWorking Replica of Noah’s Ark Opened In SCHAGEN, Netherlands . The massive central door in the side of Noah’s Ark was opened the first crowd of curious townsfolk to behold the wonder. Of course, it’s only a replica of the biblical Ark , built by Dutch Creationist Johan Huibers as a testament to his faith in the literal truth of the Bible. The ark is 150 cubits long, 30 cubits high and 20 cubits wide. That’s two-thirds the length of a football field and as high as a three-story house. Life-size models of giraffes, elephants, lions, crocodiles, zebras, bison and other animals greet visitors as they arrive in the main hold. A contractor by trade, Huibers built the ark of cedar and pine. Biblical Scholars debate exactly what the wood used by Noah would have been.

Huibers did the work mostly with his own hands, using modern tools and with occasional help from his son Roy. Construction began in May 2005.

Amazing Phone Book Celebrity Carvings
12 Mar 2010, written by Revelation 0 CommentsAlex Queral is a Philadelphian sculptor best known for using old phone books to carve their pages into celebrities faces. Some of the celebrities he’s made sculptures of include Barack Obama, Jack Nicholson, Marilyn Monroe, and Patrick Swayze. The process takes at least a couple of weeks to complete. He begins by sketching the famous person’s face on a piece of paper and laying it over the phone book, after that he uses a razor blade, patiently carving away at the thousands of pages that lie within phone book to create the 3D portrait. He then paints each face with a monochromatic wash to distinguish the portraits from the pages. Queral says that creating these portraits is a very tense process because it takes so long to do, and if you “cut something away you can’t get it back again.” You can check more of his projects here.

The State Of The Internet
11 Mar 2010, written by Revelation 0 CommentsIndividual stats like Facebook passing the 400 million user mark, Twitter hitting 50 million tweets per day, and YouTube viewers watching 1 billion videos per day are impressive on their own, but what if we looked at Internet-related stats collectively? Jesse Thomas did just that in his video State of the Internet. The video — created and animated by Thomas with data from multiple sources — highlights some remarkable figures and visually depicts the Internet as we know it today. It’s a must-watch video for anyone trying to wrap their minds around just how immersed web technologies have become in our everyday lives.

10 Of The Most Dangerous World Travel Activities
11 Mar 2010, written by Revelation 0 CommentsFor a lot of people, vacations are a time to rest and relax while for others they’re a chance to see some sights and experience interesting cultures around the world. But some people couldn’t imagine wasting a second of their vacation sitting on a beach or dining at a restaurant when they could be setting off on their next adventure. If that sounds like you and you’ve had your fill of average ski trips and snorkeling then check out these extremely dangerous travel activities from around the world.
1. Swimming with the Whale Shark in Donsol, Sorsogon Philippines

If you’re on the hunt for big adventure with an emphasis on the big, head over to the shores of Donsol in the Philippines for an incredible undersea adventure and swim with a whale shark. You’re not allowed to use scuba gear or under water scooters—it’s just you, the massive fish and the deep blue ocean. Just be sure you stay at least about 10 feet away from its head and don’t get in its way!
2. Racing the Nuerburgring in Nürburg, Germany

If “become a racecar driver” is on your list of things to do before you die, we hope for your sake that it’s last on your list. The Nurburgring racetrack in Germany is the most dangerous circuit in the world and for €22 a lap anyone can drive it. The part you can drive isn’t the F1 circuit, but the Nordschleife or “Nothern Loop” which is a famous testing ground that’s sometimes closed off for racing events. During “Touristenfahrten” the road is open to the public and (for the most part) doesn’t have a speed limit.
