We have been keeping you all updated on everything Ken Block for the past few months. Its hard to ignore this guy. First he creates DC, then releases a string of DC MTN Lab snowboard videos (some of our favorite), and then gets himself involved in rally car. We have to say, his videos are impossible not to like, and his cars are even more eye catching. This is his new whip, a 2011 Ford Fiesta. Block has been pushing a Subaru for his whole rally car career, and Im not too sure why he is all of a sudden rockin the Ford, but who cares. This thing is mean as hell looking, and Im sure his driving is going to be just as gnarly. Enjoy the pics and video!

The Worlds Smallest Library

The Worlds Smallest Library

When was the last time you really used a pay phone or went to the library? I was maybe the last one of my friends to get a cell phone, at the age of 20, so for me, its been 7 years. I would bet there are some people in this world who have never used a pay phone EVER, and to be honest, why should they? Everyone has a cell phone not to mention that pay phones are on the same level of dirtiness as a sub way car floor. Libraries are also quickly becoming a thing of the past. If you want a book, you buy it, they are like, 10 bucks. If you dont like having a million books in your apartment, you buy a Amazon Kindle. No one rents books anymore, it just seems silly. As both books and phone booths are becoming a thing of the past, a village in Somerset, England has merged the two.

The bright red old phone booth was purchased for just 1 pound and remodeled as the smallest library in the world. Residents line up to swap their already read books for new ones left by other patrons. Over 100 books and a variety of movies and music CDs are available at this tiny library.

Quentin Tarantino Simplistic Movie Posters

27 Jan 2010, written by Riz 0 Comments

Generally I would never support the revamp of anything Quentin Tarantino. His movies are pretty much all instant classics thanks to his brilliant monologues, unique camera angles, and insanely catchy marketing campaigns. These movie posters have grown beyond the promotion of the movie, and turned into a cultural fashion staple. Im sure you all know at least one person with a Reservoir Dogs movie posted framed in their living room. These revamped simplistic movie posters from some of Tarantinos classics show great use of lines and blues colors, all while projecting the basic point of the movie clearly and successfully.

5 Seasons of Lost in 9 Minutes?! **Head Explodes**

The countdown has begun, and we are only 1 week away from the season 6 premiere of Lost. This will be the shows final season, and that in itself is something to be stoked about. The writers had to basically go to war with the studio to let them limit the show to only 6 seasons. Now I know what your thinking, “Why the hell would they do that. Milk this as long as you can”, but that is exactly why the Lost writers have gained so much respect. They went into this show with a plan. A plan to tell the best story on TV, and not a plan to walk away filthy rich (which is going to happen anyway). For all of you out there who are like us, and could watch Lost on loop forever, check out this video. It is a great re cap of the first 5 seasons, all crammed into 9 minutes. How will it all end?

Everyone Steals

26 Jan 2010, written by Riz 0 Comments

I once had an art teacher who told me there was nothing wrong with taking someones designs, ideas, concepts, and transforming them into your own. We even saw a quote from our favorite street artist, Banksy. “Good Artists borrow, great artists steal”. Its true if you think about. All ideas are based on someone elses concept or creatition. This quote really sums it all up.

Prayer of a Convict

prayer

Convicted forger A. Schiller was serving his time in Sing Sing prison in the late 1800s when guards found him dead in his cell. On his body they found seven regular straight pins whose heads measured the typical 47/1000ths of an inch or 1.17 millimeters in diameter. Under 500 magnification it was found that the tiny etchings seen on the heads of the pins were the words to The Lord’s Prayer, which is 65 words and 254 letters long. Of the seven pins, six were silver and one was gold – the gold pin’s prayer was flawless and a true masterpiece. Schiller had spent the last 25 years of his life creating the pins, using a tool too small to be seen by the naked eye. It is estimated that it took 1,863 sepatate carving strokes to make it. Schiller went blind because of his artwork.

10 Best Places to Escape Reality

22 Jan 2010, written by Riz 0 Comments

Falling into the daily grind is easy to get caught up in. Everyone wants to make more money, get a better job, wear a nicer suit, and generally be more successful than the next guy. I guess thats a pretty good attitude if your looking to get to the top, but its not happiness. Its competition. Its human nature. Joe Rogan once said that if you look at earth from an airplane, it is like a peice of molded bread, with people being the mold. We seem to band together, and destroy everything around us. Fly over Newark NJ, or LA and think about it next time. Heres a list of 10 places that will make you realize what peace and true happiness are.

10. Switzerland

switzerland1
Switzerland’s long history of neutrality and its tucked away location among the valleys of the Alps still make it a safe bet, even despite having a high number of bordering nations. It helps that neighboring Austria is also considered a neutral nation. Plus having some of the worlds most beautiful women doesnt really hurt either.

9. Costa Rica

costarica
Costa Rica has a stable democracy, a disbanded military and a national policy of neutrality. It also ranks highly on the Global Peace Index, Happy Planet Index, and Life Satisfaction Index. All of that says relaxation to me. Although it sits in the middle of a tumultuous region, there are far worse places to sit in peace as the world goes down in flames all around.

8. Papua New Guinea

papenewgin
There are regions of Papua New Guinea that are still being discovered for the first time. The canopy covered, mountainous nation contains some of the most isolated places in the world. Tuck yourself away in a nook here and it may be one of the few places left where you can completely insulate yourself from the outside world. There are natives here who have no idea of the outside world, think about that.

Thats The Way Its Always Been Done

5monkeys

Im not really a huge anti government kind of guy, and I certainly am not standing on the corner in the cold with a sign trying to push opinions on anyone, but this video is really interesting. Start with a cage containing 5 monkeys…. this story illustrates how human society keeps doing the same things over and over again because – “that’s the way things have always been done around here”. Most people have no idea why they follow the path laid out before them, but instead of questioning why, they simply go along with everyone else.

Pour Out A Little Liquor

tupacbiggie

Atticus Finch, Tupac, and Biggie?! Whoaa, we Love it.

The painting is by Dave MacDowell, whose new show “The Sins of Atticus Finch” opened last week at the Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles. MacDowell said of the show:

As a kid, I always loved “To Kill A Mockingbird”, and wished Atticus Finch was my dad. To be guided by such ethical wisdom would have made me a better person, I imagine. But nobody’s perfect, and our imperfections dictate the core of this new series, working on both superficial and deeper levels. On the surface is a colorful, humorous romp where we poke fun at celebrity culture and media. Yet the undercurrent is all about how society is bent on correcting wrongs by repressing everyone. It’s always fun to explore how we’re repressed by our parents, “The Man” and the method’s used to repress ourselves.
