Scott Pilgrim VS The Universe

26 Mar 2010, written by Riz 1 Comments

Scott Pilgrim is a comic book series by Bryan Lee O’Malley, intended to eventually consist of six digest size black-and-white volumes. The series is about 23-year-old Canadian Scott Pilgrim, a slacker, hero, and part-time bassist who is living in Toronto and plays bass guitar in the band “Sex Bob-Omb.” He falls in love with American delivery girl Ramona V. Flowers, but must defeat her seven “evil exes” in order to date her. This film has Michael Cera written all over it. When I first saw the trailer, I was kind of skeptical, but after watching it a few times, I have to admit, Im kind of stoked. This film is set for a July release, so be on the look out of a slew of promotion that will soon be following. As always, you saw it at Zoot Patrol first. No need for applause.

One letter isn’t much by itself, but when a word has one letter changed, it could make a big difference. Point in case here are ten movie posters that change only one letter, to get a totally different movie.

Robert Rodriquez- Predators

19 Mar 2010, written by Riz 0 Comments

This was all news to me until about 2 days ago. I hadnt heard a single thing about this even being made, and that suprises me since I feel like I keep a pretty tight grip on the movie industries pulse. I guess not. This is the new trailer for Robert Rodriguez’s Predators. I have to say, there is no way this will EVER compete with Predator 1 and Arnold and Appolo Creed looking all jacked, fighting Predators, and generally being badasses. Check it out for yourself.

Really? He’s The New Captain America?

11 Mar 2010, written by Riz 0 Comments

We arent claiming to be Access Hollywood, or People Magazine, but WTF! Really? Out of all the people in Hollywood, this is whos up for the roll of Captain America?

Insiders at the Marvel compound say that John Krasinski is close to landing the superhero gig of his life. John, who plays Jim on “The Office,” has appeared in front of producers repeatedly since the start of the new year and since rumors began in February. He has read 4 times and is doing screen tests. It’s very likely that he will be the new Captain America. He is a favorite among the key decision makers and has been asked to come back for more this week. Humm. Whos making the decisons over at Marvel, because I just dont see this one happening. Dont get me wrong. This dude is awesome on The Office, but Captain America? All Im saying is you better get your weight up Johnny.

3D Movie Extravaganza and 3D HDTVs Becoming Reality!

10 Mar 2010, written by ZootPatrol.com 0 Comments

With the success of Avatar 3D and it’s ability not only to create an extraordinary visual experience but also pull the viewer deeper into the plot you better get ready for the 3D barrage.  Formatting a film to 3D only takes about 16 weeks and is relatively inexpensive for a studio to do, in the months to come don’t be surprised to see re-released 3D versions of your favorite visually stunning flicks such as  Lord of Rings and The Matrix.  Wired.com reports that a source close George Lucas has confirmed he is spending the 10 million it will take to update his 1976 classic Star Wars.

On top of that we have had heard rumors of 3D HDTVs coming out but nothing concrete.  Well Sony announced yesterday their pricing and release dates of the LX900 series which they unveiled in Las Vegas in Jan.  Panasonic and Samsung have similar announcements scheduled over the coming weeks.   The Sony line is made up of 38 models ranging in screen sizes from 60 to 22-inches. The LX900 series offers integrated 3D functionality with Sony’s 3D active shutter glasses and built-in 3D transmitter, while the HX900 and HX800-series are 3D capable using Sony 3D active shutter glasses and 3D transmitter (each sold separately).  They are dropping in Japan this summer and expect the U.S.A release soon after.  Price range should be in the $6,000 to $3,000 depending on size with 60 inch being the largest.  In 3 years I would expect 3D HDTV to be the new standard.

RiP!: A Remix Manifesto

09 Mar 2010, written by Riz 1 Comments

RiP!: A Remix Manifesto is a 2008 open source documentary film about the “the changing concept of copyright” directed by Brett Gaylor. I know this is now 2 years old, but somehow I never heard of it, and I love the entire concept.

Created over a period of six years, the documentary film features the collaborative remix work of hundreds of people who have contributed to the Open Source Cinema website, helping to create the “world’s first open source documentary” as Gaylor put it. Gaylor encourages more people to create their own remixes from this movie, using media available from the Open Source Cinema website, or other websites like YouTube, Flickr, Hulu or MySpace. I was doing some youtube viewing of old Girl Talk shows that I had been too, and this popped up. If you have never seen GT, please go check out a show. The energy is great and you will never have more fun at a show.

Real Avatar Hallelujah Mountains.

05 Mar 2010, written by ZootPatrol.com 2 Comments

Well, they don’t actually float, but they are spectacular looking.  The mountains in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in southeast China have a striking resemblance to the Hallelujah Mountains in Avatar.  In fact, sources say that James Cameron spent time shooting there in 2008.  One mountain in particular has been renamed “Avatar Hallelujah Mountain”.  Previously known as “Southern Sky Column” the 35oo ft peak seen below would seem to have been an inspiration for Cameron.

Formerly "Southern Sky Column" now "Avatar Hallelujah Mountain"

Sci Fi Movie Knock Offs

03 Mar 2010, written by ZootPatrol.com 0 Comments

A friend of mine was recently voicing his complaints about his Netflix account.  He is a huge sciFi fan and when searching for his favorite SciFi movies would always find many versions of knock off movies right next to them and in one case had even chosen the wrong movie for delivery.  I did some research and found what I was looking for at scifiwire.com.  I had no idea how many mockbusters were really out there.  Here are some of the best.  Princess of Mars actually takes credit as inspiration for Avatar on the cover.

My Prayers Have Been Answered, Zoolander 2 Is Happening

03 Mar 2010, written by Revelation 0 Comments

A mere nine years after Zoolander opened to mixed reviews and modest box-office Ben Stiller and the gang are re-upping for another adventure in male modeling. Nikki Finke of Deadline Hollywood is reporting that actor turned writer-director Justin Theroux will direct and co-write the script for Zoolander 2 with Stiller. The two recently collaborated on the screenplay for Tropic Thunder. According to the article, Jonah Hill is currently in negotiations to play the villain. Yay? All the same, let the Zoolander quoting commence! WHAT IS THIS A CENTER FOR ANTS!

Get Him To The Greek Movie Trailer

12 Feb 2010, written by Revelation 0 Comments

A lot of people don’t find Russell Brand funny, I’m not one of them. I’ve been a fan ever since his role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I’m still on the fence about Jonah Hill, but this film seems to bring out the best in both actors. Aaron Greenberg (Hill) gets things done. The ambitious 23-year-old has exaggerated his way into a dream job just in time for a career-making assignment. His mission: Fly to London and escort a rock god to L.A.s Greek Theatre for the first-stop on a $100-million tour. His warning: Turn your back on him at your own peril. British rocker Aldous Snow (Brand) is both a brilliant musician and walking sex. Weary of yes men and piles of money, the former front man is searching for the meaning of life. But that doesn’t mean he cant have a few orgies while he finds it. When he learns his true love is in California, Aldous makes it his quest to win her backright before kick-starting his world domination.

As the countdown to the concert begins, one intern must navigate a minefield of London drug smuggles, New York City brawls and Vegas lap dances to deliver his charge safe and, sort of, sound. He may have to coax, lie to, enable and party with Aldous, but Aaron will get him to the Greek.
