Artist Cyphers of the BET Awards

28 Oct 2009, written by Revelation 0 Comments

Following the airing of the 2009 BET Hip Hop Awards last night the most talked about topic of the night seemed to be the award shows cyphers. For those who don’t know what a “cypher” is, it is when a bunch of rappers stand in a circle and take turns rapping. The scene consisted of three segments, the cyphers featured Hip Hop artists from across the country rocking verses to beats by DJ Premier. Artists included in the cyphers included Joe Budden, Nicki Minaj, KRS-One, Wale, Eminem, Black Thought, Buckshot, and more. BET will air an encore of the Hip Hop Awards on Thursday, October 29 at 9 p.m. Here are the links to the first one and second segments, but by far the best was the third and final cypher of the night. The cypher consisted of Mos Def, Black Thought, and Eminem. Clearly once again Eminem was on top of his game and was the best, but Mos and Black Thought defiantly stepped it up and were seen as equals in the ring against Em.

Made Out Of Garbage ”Junk Dunk”

28 Oct 2009, written by Revelation 0 Comments

Gabriel Dishaw is an artist who does this thing using the Junk that we all throw out. He has done many other sculptures, but we are focusing on a few pairs of metal kicks he created. He labels this first one, the appropiately named, Junk Dunk.
He used very little wire , and more glue to keep it as non-bulky as possible and included new details such as a hinged tongue and a nike logo on the tongue and the back of the shoe. Previously he used actual Nike soles, but this time, it was all trash. We love them , but do not recommend anyone wear these because you will lose your toes, or get some kind of tetanus disease. Either way , they are quite impressive.

First 5 Minutes of Boondock Saints 2- All Saints Day

28 Oct 2009, written by Riz 1 Comments

I know we might be a little late with letting everyone know that Boondock Saints 2- All Saints Day will be in theaters this Friday, the 30th, but we here at ZootPatrol like to try and make up for our shortcomings. Thats why I usually extend the foreplay with girls, just to make up for how bad the actual sex of it is going to be. Anyway, here is the first 5 minutes of the movie. I have a feeling this movie is either going to be love, or hate for viewers. There are those people who are never happy with sequals, and always think sometimes classics are better off left alone. Then theres people like me, who cant get enough of a good thing. I will be checking it out in theaters, and hoping that over time, this movie will become just as big of a cult following as the original. Enjoy.

Turning Scanning Barcodes Into Art

28 Oct 2009, written by Revelation 0 Comments

Barcodes may be a potent symbol of consumerism, but they aren’t just found on product packaging anymore. They are being used as satire of greed and money, or simply taking advantage of their visual impact. The bar code is being reinvented by some companies by changing the way the barcode is implemented on their products. The question was, why has the bar code never changed?
The bar code is something that has been around for a while and the image is etched in people’s brain as a standard form. Artists such as Scott Blake has taken advantage of such a boring image and created art based upon the patterned code. Blake has truly turned the barcode into an art form, using it to create portraits of iconic pop culture figures like OJ Simpson, Charles Manson, Oprah and Jesus. He also creates barcode stencils that he calls ‘word paintings’, and barcode graffiti, like an image that simply says “Scott Blake was here.” Of his barcode portraits, Blake says, “I started making art with barcodes right before Y2K, inspired by the year 2000 computer bug, and threatening digital apocalypse. Barcode Jesus was born in Photoshop, by creating mosaics with simple shapes. I first tried circles and then squares. The tile patterns morphed into a cluster of lines, and before I knew it, I was staring at a bunch of barcodes. I assigned the numbers to describe each pixel’s grayscale value and grid coordinate.”

It’s Not A Door Handle, It’s A Door Hand-Le

27 Oct 2009, written by Revelation 0 Comments

The real ‘Door hand’, called Door “Hand-le”, by Naomi Thellier de Poncheville for London Design Festival, would make me want to use this door 80 times a day. Think of every day you walk into your house you get a firm handshake from a hand model. Of course if your the Donald Trump type, you might have to use some hand sanitizer after every entry and exit, we think its worth it though to be greeted like a boss every day.

Burton Poach Video.

27 Oct 2009, written by Riz 0 Comments

With winter just a few short weeks away, I have already begun digging through old snow board flicks, and blowing off work projects to check out some shred videos on youtube. As I was in the middle of my usual winter day dream, I stumbled upon a video that was posted last year by Burton Snowboards. It was a contest to see who could make the best Mountain Poach video. Currently, there are 4 mountains in North America that do not allow snowboarders- Mad River Glen, in Vermont, Taos Ski Valley in New Mexico, and Deer Valley and Alta Ski Resort, both in Utah. I was out West a few winters ago and my homies and I considered Poaching Alta, but then quickly decided just to ride Park City another day, rather than deal with the hassle just for a cool story. Had we only been a few years later, and we might have had a shot at the 5 thousand dollar purse for best video. Enjoy the video and get ready for winter. I for one have been strapped into my Burton 7, doing 360 spins off my bed since late July.

Motorola Droid, The Real iPhone Killer?

27 Oct 2009, written by Revelation 0 Comments

So by my count there has officially been 4,652 “iPhone Killer” cellphones that have been released since the iPhone came out. Also to my count, zero have even came close to comparing with the iPhone. I have used them all Blackberry, Samsung, Palm, you name it, and to be honest with myself, and everyone else, the iPhone is the best phone you can buy, bar none, until now…..maybe. Powerhouse companies Verizon, Google, and Motorola have all teamed up to put out the Motorola Droid. Our friends at Boy Genius Report released the first hands-on with the Droid and it was as excellent experience throughout.
So first off when is this thing dropping, in 7 years? No, it is actually going to be available for Verizon customers only, in a few weeks, so hold out on using your 1998 Nokia for a little bit longer, just keep playing Snake and chill out. Droid will be the most advanced Android device on the market as far as specifications go. Software too, as it’s the only one said to be running Android 2.0 until months from now. There’s a 550MHz Texas Instruments OMAP3430 processor, separate PowerVR GPU, 256MB of RAM, CDMA Rev A., Wi-Fi, GPS, a digital magnetometer, accelerometer, proximity sensors, a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with dual-LED flash, notification LED, four touch-sensitive navigation buttons, a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard, 3.5mm headset jack, microUSB port — jesus. The 3.7 inch display powers a 854×480 resolution image and shows off Android’s true colors.
The truth is we can go on for days about the powerful specs this bad boy has, but you can go to this detailed report by Boy Genius to get the full review. One thing I was excited about although it’s just an accessory is the charging dock/media station. I have pretty much this exact docking station for my Blackberry Storm, but I had to pay $40 for it.

In conclusion the Motorola Droid probably won’t be as good as the iPhone, as much as I hate to say it. Having a phone powered by Google though makes it a worthy competitor and the sky is the limit with software updates and applications available, which makes the playing field even when facing off against Apple.

Lil Wayne to Join T.I. and Plaxico

27 Oct 2009, written by Riz 0 Comments

Its a damn good thing Lil Wayne went on a recording frenzy this past year, because we are going to be without our usual every day does of Weezy for the next year. Lil’ Wayne is going to jail for his weapons charge after accepting a plea bargain. Mr. Lil will plead guilty for his possession of a 40 calibre gun found on his bus in 2007, to avoid a longer term behind bars on gun charges. If Lil Wayne had tried to fight the weapons charge, he could have faced anywhere from 3 1/2 to 15 years behind the bars. That sounds about right. Dante Stallworth got drunk and ran someone over with his car, and he got 1 month in jail. Lil Wayne doing 15 years for a gun that wasnt his sounds fair. I am really torn on how I actually feel about situations like this (T.I. Plaxico, ect.). On one hand, I feel that these guys are roll models, whether they like it or not. Much of their record sales come from the younger portion of our communities, and those are the kids who are looking up to them. On the other hand, these guys are from some of the poorest and most violent neighborhoods in the country. We cant expect them to just turn off their guard and natural instinct to protect themselves once they get a little bit of money. In any event, good luck in the slammer Weezy. I think as long as you stay sippin some home made syrup, and freestyling for the boys in the yard, you should do just fine. I would cut the hair first though. You dont want any one in there mistaking you for Mrs Lil Weezy.

Bending Light With Alan Jaras

26 Oct 2009, written by Revelation 0 Comments

Alan Jaras is research scientist and microscopist who decided to use his profession as a way to create stunning images to share with the world. His fascination in the interplay and interaction of light on materials and surfaces is what drives him and serves as the purpose of his photography. He is now exploring the world of caustics – those magical patterns that are formed when a beam of light travels through transparent textured materials.
Using traditional photographic techniques and pieces of complex shaped glass and plastics Jaras projects these patterns directly on to colour film. The resulting images and photographs that you see are purely analogue and are not computer generated, but a true representation of the patterns formed by the light beam after its complex journey through the refractive objects he creates.
As Jaras says in his own words,

“I have always sought to find a bridge between art and science; with these “Refractographs” I now feel I have achieved my goal.”
