Like finding a golden tomb under the great pyramid, a previously unheard LL Cool J track was found behind a radiator this weekend. Recorded in 1994 during the “golden era” of rap music, it’s called Year of the Hip Hop and is now being sold in a limited edition vinyl. I need to be honest here. I was never a huge LL fan, but this jam is killing it!
Slice of Spice, the company that is now selling the record tells the backstory of the recording:
“Back in 1994 K-Def was working on some beats out of the B Room in Marly Marl’s House Of Hits when LL Cool J walked in on his session and said “let’s make some tracks together”. Uncle L had always wanted to rhyme on a track using the famous ESG breakbeat ‘UFO’, so he had Def lay it down with some scratches and then went to town with the mic. Both thought they had a sure fire hit on their hands but unfortunately it was never used.”
Do you remember when it was cool to call Hip Hop Rap? I do.
Heres a trailer for the new Bad Meets Evil album set to drop from Eminem and Royce 5’9. June 14th is a big day. Not only is it when this album will drop, but its also Flag Day, as well as our own Revelations bday. Eminem actually called the Zoot headquarters and told us he would be giving us a special bday present. We had no idea it would be the album of the year!
After a rough leak months ago, Kanye West’s official video for his single, “Monster,” has finally hit the web for real, and for better or worse, it was certainly worth the wait to see.
Yeezy is joined by his partner in crime and big brother, Jay-Z, Rick Ross, and the ohhhh so fine Nicki Minaj in a spooky, off-the-wall and semi-graphic video that, by its own admission, touches on the racy and controversial.
With an introductory disclaimer that reads, “The following content is in no way to be interpreted as misogynistic or negative towards any groups of people. It is an art piece and it shall be taken as such,” the video launches into women hanging by nooses, Kanye setting up a threesome with corpses, Jay-Z raps over dead women and evil Nicki Minaj busts out the S&M gear to torture her good self. Seriously. Nicki Minaj give HERSELF a lapdance. This cant get any better.
This is pretty much how I wake up for work every morning, so I dont really know what all of the fuss is about.
The rapper Common was invited to take part in a White House Poetry event on Wednesday, angering some GOP members who claim the hip-hop artist’s lyrics celebrate violence. Last night’s “Evening of Poetry,” part of Michelle Obama’s White House Music Series, reportedly went smoothly, showcasing performers like singer Aimee Mann, comedian Steve Martin, and former poets laureate Billy Collins and Rita Dove. But some right-wing idiots criticized Common’s participation in the event, pointing to controversial rhymes he recited on a 2007 episode of HBO’s “Def Poetry”: “Why they messing with Saddam? / burn a Bush cos’ for peace he push no button / killing over oil and grease / no weapons of destruction,” Im not too much of a fan of Commons newer stuff, but Ill give him credit for this. Amazing poem and a great performance. Some people really have a problem with this, but I would still love to see the reaction if Weezy got invited to the White House.
So you think you can dance? Well probably not, you probably cant even pull off a drunk robot move correctly, luckily there are guys like Les Twins to provide the world with some sick dancing. The whole performance provided by Yak Films, is really remarkable, with body movements never seen before, and a theatrical performance to go along with it. Les Twins, are a hip-hop dance duo consisting of the identical twins Laurent and Larry Bourgeois from Sarcelles, France. Their dance style is new style, a type of hip-hop dance. I must admit, it is kind of weird seeing brothers touch each others butts and getting all close but they are French so are you really surprised? Check out another video and photography after the jump as well, it is dopeeeeeeeeeee.

If you like hip hop, I am sure when you were younger you used to get excited for Freestyle Friday’s on BET, well at least I did, where they showcased the talent of Poster Boy, and Jin, but I havent seen a Freestyle Friday since 2004, real talk. Well I apparently have been missing out on some extreme talent, Blind Fury. If you can guess, he is a blind rapper, a white blind rapper, yes I said that correct. His real name is Steven Norris and he is from South Carolina. Blind Fury represents the evolution of the rap game that was born on the streets of the Bronx, NY. Born blind on October 10, 1984 in Camden South Carolina he had the world against him from day one. Below is a little mix of his battles coming up and they are pretty awesome, also below after the jump check out his first single, and also a short documentary of how he became what he is today. You can also hit up his website seen here for more information on his music.

The cover art for Lil Waynes upcoming album, The Carter IV just hit the internet. Im lovinggggg how he is keeping with the theme from The Carter III. That baby with the face tats pretty much inspired me to buy the album, and then influenced me to spend the next year stuck in Waynes world with the record on repeat. We will have to wait to see if the actual album is as good as the cover art, but if we know Weezy, and we do personally, we can all be assured that its going to be fire. What do you think of the cover art?
