Lost LL Cool J Record Found Where?
13 Sep 2011, written by Riz 0 CommentsLike finding a golden tomb under the great pyramid, a previously unheard LL Cool J track was found behind a radiator this weekend. Recorded in 1994 during the “golden era” of rap music, it’s called Year of the Hip Hop and is now being sold in a limited edition vinyl. I need to be honest here. I was never a huge LL fan, but this jam is killing it!
Slice of Spice, the company that is now selling the record tells the backstory of the recording:
“Back in 1994 K-Def was working on some beats out of the B Room in Marly Marl’s House Of Hits when LL Cool J walked in on his session and said “let’s make some tracks together”. Uncle L had always wanted to rhyme on a track using the famous ESG breakbeat ‘UFO’, so he had Def lay it down with some scratches and then went to town with the mic. Both thought they had a sure fire hit on their hands but unfortunately it was never used.”

Rusko Featuring Jay-Z – Hov Holds On
24 May 2011, written by Revelation 0 CommentsI’ve been pretty into dubstep for a while now and rusko’s song hold on was one of the first songs I heard, so it is not new by any means. But when you mash it up with one of jay-z’s great verses it reemerges as a great tune call Hov Holds On, hollaaaaaaaa.
Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg Are Back With “Threeway” Featuring Lady Gaga
23 May 2011, written by Revelation 0 CommentsThe Dick in a box and Mother Fuckers guys are back, Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg that is. There third song is just as hilarious as the previous two called “Threeway” featuring Lady Gaga. The song lays down the rules of three-ways and explains the exception of having sex with another dude involved, it’s not gay if there’s a chick in between apparently.

Commons White House Poem
12 May 2011, written by Riz 0 CommentsThe rapper Common was invited to take part in a White House Poetry event on Wednesday, angering some GOP members who claim the hip-hop artist’s lyrics celebrate violence. Last night’s “Evening of Poetry,” part of Michelle Obama’s White House Music Series, reportedly went smoothly, showcasing performers like singer Aimee Mann, comedian Steve Martin, and former poets laureate Billy Collins and Rita Dove. But some right-wing idiots criticized Common’s participation in the event, pointing to controversial rhymes he recited on a 2007 episode of HBO’s “Def Poetry”: “Why they messing with Saddam? / burn a Bush cos’ for peace he push no button / killing over oil and grease / no weapons of destruction,” Im not too much of a fan of Commons newer stuff, but Ill give him credit for this. Amazing poem and a great performance. Some people really have a problem with this, but I would still love to see the reaction if Weezy got invited to the White House.
Fight For Your Right Revisited
21 Apr 2011, written by Riz 0 CommentsTwo weeks ago The Beastie Boys debuted their new trailer for the short film, Fight For Your Rights Revisited. Here is a 5 minute promo clip that aired last night, and just as in the trailer, the actual video is littered with celeb cameos. I love how it starts. “Tallyhoeee”.
The Go! Team Are “Getting a Divorce”
21 Apr 2011, written by Riz 0 CommentsIf you have a ticket to a upcoming Go! Team show, do not miss it, like me and some friends did this past Saturday in Brooklyn (DAMNITTT!). We let the bad weather sway us from going to the show, and then we come to find out it was probably our last chance to see them live, as it looks like the band is calling it a day. I remember the first time my boy and I heard Ladyflash off of Thunder, Lightning, Strike. It was our snowboarding sound track that winter.
“We all got married in a joint ceremony. The six of us, because it’s even boys and girls,” said lead vocalist Ninja. “This is a modern decade and now we’re getting divorced and it’s as simple as that really. We’re all fighting over a prenup, so that’s where we’re at right now. Sorting out who’s going to get what. Lawyers are battling it out.”
Its kind of sad to think that such a great band, that accomplished so much, is now letting their lawyers battle this out. I just checked out their tour schedule, and they have a few months left on the world tour. Im sure those bus rides are slightly awkward to say the least.
for old times sake!
