Boardwalk Empire will be running two promotions with the MTA. Starting on Saturday and running through weekends in September, the 2/3 lines will be using throwback trains from the 1920s, which is basically the same as the subway cars they currently have running.

The show’s second promotion takes place on September 24th and 25th and has the potential to cause a riot. They’ll be handing out free MetroCards to passengers at the 2/3 stations at Times Square and 72nd Street. Im lucky enough to walk to work, and thank god. Theres going to be some serious battles going on for those free metros. At $105 bucks for an unlimited, every little free hand out helps!

Its not everyday when you actually hear New Yorkers go out of their way to be nice to eachother. Improv Everywhere, the folks that bring you the annual “No Pants Subway Ride,” are back with a new video that shows New Yorkers being nice to each other. A megaphone was strapped to a podium in Union Square with a sign that said “Say Something Nice”. This should be a permanent installation.

NYC yellow cabs can really start looking like toy figurines when shot with tilt focus from the 7 train platform in Sunnyside, Queens.

This is a look at Brooklyn’s road and subway signs freshly hacked by TrustoCorp. These bombs feature some handy pictogram life instructions for the “Rough Road” and several “Things Get Better,” “Stay Positive” encouragements. With this heat I think New Yorkers need all the nods of encouragement they can get.

There is a new addition to photographer Jay Maisel’s 70+ room mansion on Bowery and Spring (my favorite building in the City). A street artist pasted up a poster of ‘Kind of Blue’ album by Miles Davis. Andy Baio of Waxy.org created Kind of Bloop, a chip-tunes version of the legendary album. Sounds super rad right? It was until he got sued for copyright infringement of the cover which he didnt license. Jay Maisel, the photographer of the original work sited Shepard Fairey vs. the AP fiasco, and Baio settled out of court for $32,500.

Kenny Scharf can finally stop worrying about writers tagging over his mural on Bowery. French street artist JR will now be the one wondering just how long it will take for his Squinting photo mural to be the next graffiti hot spot. The new piece of DJ Two Bear is high in contrast to Scharf’s colored dripping faces. Lets see how long this will last before it is completely covered in random tags.

If you live in NYC, the chances that you have seen a movie star, or a film getting made are high. We love our movies, and this map is the perfect creation for any New Yorker. Bernie Hou of Alien Loves Predator, has spent the last five months cramming 91 movie references onto one awesome movie map of New York.

Pretty sweet, right? Even better, you can get a copy of it for yourself. The first person to e-mail the 91 movies in the poster, in order, to Hou will get a free copy of the poster (as well three random runner-ups). Just make sure you notice that the flickr version of the poster numbers each reference! Of course, if you don’t feel like doing all that work you can always buy an 18″x24″ print of the map for $16. But where is the fun in that?

Someone who is calling themselves Looons gave this tree in Hells Kitchen a nice jacket last night. Too bad today is hands down the nicest day of the year in NYC. Even though this yarn tree jacket design looks amazing, and is not at all harmful, Im sure people will find a way to call in vandalism and complain about it. It is nice however, to see artists exploring all avenues of street art, even ones that arent permanent.
