Jackets for Trees
26 Apr 2011, written by Riz 0 CommentsSomeone who is calling themselves Looons gave this tree in Hells Kitchen a nice jacket last night. Too bad today is hands down the nicest day of the year in NYC. Even though this yarn tree jacket design looks amazing, and is not at all harmful, Im sure people will find a way to call in vandalism and complain about it. It is nice however, to see artists exploring all avenues of street art, even ones that arent permanent.
New Old Spice Guy
22 Apr 2011, written by Riz 0 CommentsIs this the end for Isaiah Mustafa? Old Spice has a new commercial for its new Danger Zone product line, currently only airing outside the US. The new campaign features actor Neal Bledsoe, who never loses his dapper smile despite being attacked by snakes, crocodiles, and piranhas, not to mention hit by a bus. What do you think of the new Old Spice Guy?
Vandalism is Now Mainstream
21 Apr 2011, written by Riz 0 CommentsLA-based artist Eddie Colla gave a personal view of MOCA’s latest gallery opening with a billboard and a shot at the museum’s curator Jeffrey Deitch. MOCA’s show is just another example of how people want to prosecute and badmouth street artists, but at the same time find a way to make money off of them.
Fight For Your Right Revisited
21 Apr 2011, written by Riz 0 CommentsTwo weeks ago The Beastie Boys debuted their new trailer for the short film, Fight For Your Rights Revisited. Here is a 5 minute promo clip that aired last night, and just as in the trailer, the actual video is littered with celeb cameos. I love how it starts. “Tallyhoeee”.
The Go! Team Are “Getting a Divorce”
21 Apr 2011, written by Riz 0 CommentsIf you have a ticket to a upcoming Go! Team show, do not miss it, like me and some friends did this past Saturday in Brooklyn (DAMNITTT!). We let the bad weather sway us from going to the show, and then we come to find out it was probably our last chance to see them live, as it looks like the band is calling it a day. I remember the first time my boy and I heard Ladyflash off of Thunder, Lightning, Strike. It was our snowboarding sound track that winter.
“We all got married in a joint ceremony. The six of us, because it’s even boys and girls,” said lead vocalist Ninja. “This is a modern decade and now we’re getting divorced and it’s as simple as that really. We’re all fighting over a prenup, so that’s where we’re at right now. Sorting out who’s going to get what. Lawyers are battling it out.”
Its kind of sad to think that such a great band, that accomplished so much, is now letting their lawyers battle this out. I just checked out their tour schedule, and they have a few months left on the world tour. Im sure those bus rides are slightly awkward to say the least.
for old times sake!
Lil Wayne Tha Carter IV Cover Art
20 Apr 2011, written by Riz 0 CommentsThe cover art for Lil Waynes upcoming album, The Carter IV just hit the internet. Im lovinggggg how he is keeping with the theme from The Carter III. That baby with the face tats pretty much inspired me to buy the album, and then influenced me to spend the next year stuck in Waynes world with the record on repeat. We will have to wait to see if the actual album is as good as the cover art, but if we know Weezy, and we do personally, we can all be assured that its going to be fire. What do you think of the cover art?
What Logos Really Mean
20 Apr 2011, written by Riz 0 CommentsWe all do it. We walk out of a store, stare up at the logo, and think to ourselves “F this place, what they should really be calling themselves is McDiabetes. I feel like shit!” A companies logo really is how they are perceived by the general public, and if they arent careful, Viktor Hertz will call you out and let you know how people really view you and your damn logo. All of these are pretty spot on, and I agree with all of these altercations except the Ferrari one. I dont care how big or small people thought my unit was. If I had the means, I would most certainly buy a Ferrari, take it onto the Turnpike in the middle of the night, and go out in a blaze of glory while doing 200 miles per. Real talk.
Tarantino VS Coen Brothers Art Show
20 Apr 2011, written by Riz 0 CommentsLast week hundreds of Tarantino and Coen brothers fans packed into the super small Chelsea’s Bold Hype Gallery to view some amazing art based on the three directors. The line was three floors, two hallways, and a super long wait, but it was all well worth it. The art was mostly meant for die hard fans of the 2 directing teams, as a lot of the work had to do with inside jokes based on their movies.
The Swan
19 Apr 2011, written by Riz 0 CommentsYou don’t have to be Natalie Portman or Mila Kunis to excel in a treatment of “The Swan,” a cello standard composed by Camille Saint-Saëns, cellist Yo-Yo Ma and Los Angeles dancer Charles “Lil’ Buck” Riley. These two accompany one another to create a hybrid of classical music and street dancing. Riley, specializes in a dance called the Memphis Jook, and exhibits superhuman balance and intense flexibility. The video, captured in an impromptu shoot by director Spike Jonze, shows the performers carefully watching each other’s timing, and after it’s all over they seem to get along well for such different artists. I guess we all can just get along when we find some common ground.
The Mountain
18 Apr 2011, written by Riz 0 CommentsIm not really one to go off the deep end when it comes to analyzing beauty and nature, but this is seriously one of the most remarkable things Ive ever seen. This was filmed between April 4-11, 2011, on Spains El Teide mountain. The goal of this project was to capture the Milky Way galaxy. Check it out, and if your looking for more info, here is the artists Vimeo page.
